Small Review of RHCE Rapid course, and what's next after RHCE?

Hi,
I recently attended the RHCE Rapid Course. I have a small review for everyone here. First like to let everyone know, I have 10+ years in writing c/c++ professionally. The biggest leap I made, if i treated RHEL like a programming environment, everything clicks.
1) Redhat's course is top shelf. Is it worth the money? If you have it, yes.
2) The redhat instructor is A+++. The instructor explained things very elegantly. He is from Canada, but I can't seem to recall his name.
3) Its very fast paced and 95% hands on.
4) The RHCE Rapid book is great, its direct to the point. I wish they had this on PDF.
5) Everything builds on everything. You are constantly build skill by executing things over and over in different scenarios.
How did we do collectively?
1) Majority passed the RHCSA exam, some unfortunately, did not. Most for the same reason, unfortunately, I can not tell why
2) Even fewer passed the RHCE exam. Most ran out of time. I did too, but it was on when I was checking my work. I am glad I did, i found a blatant issue that takes 2 seconds to fix.
I did pass, RHCSA with a perfect score, and RHCE with lots of wiggle room. To be blunt, I had it planned out that I would fail the first attempts and have this month and part of next to re-take it.
So my main question is what is next? I do not have a clear plan what to do next. I spent this weekend thinking on it and researching. I see I do need a good virtualization cert, like VMWare or RHVA (?). I like to take a huge step away from microsoft windows. So let me know what your thoughts are, and maybe I can come up with a plan in a few days.

Acer CEO gets the chop after failing to turnaround tumbling sales

This thing probably didn't help

It's tough times for Taiwan-based company Acer, which has seen its CEO J.T. Wang step down following less-than-stellar financial results. It's the second tech casualty in a week following the departure of BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins, who exited the company after it failed to secure a buyer.

The world's fourth-biggest computer maker saw sales plunge 11% year-on-year to $3.11 billion (around £1.9 billion, or AU$34.9 billion) during the quarter ending October 31.

It posted an operating loss of $86.61 billion (around £54 billion, or AU$91.3 billion), which the company put down to readying Windows 8.1 devices and related inventory management.

Acer hasn't exactly shied away from experimentation in the Windows 8 arena - its flawed Iconia W3 was the first 8-inch tablet featuring Microsoft's tactile OS - and its hinge-toting R7 laptop took the unconventional approach of putting the trackpad above the keyboard.

But the company has struggled to bolster computer sales in the face of an increasingly competitive tablet market and weak global demand for laptops. It saw global PC shipments drop by 34.5 per cent year-on-year during the quarter, according to market watcher IDC.

Wang, who has led the company since 2008, will step down as CEO on January 1 but will stay on as chairman until the second quarter of 2014.

He is being succeeded by Acer President Jim Wong, who will be tasked with leading a significant restructuring program that will see 7% of the company's work force laid off, a move expected to save the company in the region of $100 million a year from 2014.

Though Acer says that it expects shipments for its notebooks, tablet PCs and Chromebooks to decrease by 10% in Q4 compared to the previous quarter, it expects profits to improve.

'Wave of relief' after Sydney gang arrests

POLICE have laid a series of charges in the wake of a spate of western Sydney shootings, one of which involved the murder of a man last year.

NSW Police say a split in the Brothers 4 Life crime gang is behind the violence that culminated this week with what they described as their worst fear: the shooting of an innocent bystander.

Less than three days after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly caught in crossfire and hit in the back, police announced on Thursday they had arrested 10 gang members including the "de facto leader" of Brothers 4 Life.

Six members, all in their 20s, are in custody in relation to two shootings last year.

Five had been charged by 1.30pm (AEDT), most notably a 28-year-old Revesby Heights man charged with the murder of 27-year-old Yehyah Amood, who died in Greenacre after being gunned down on October 14 last year.

The accused was due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

A 32-year-old man was also shot in the attack but survived.

That incident came after a 27-year-old man was found shot in the leg in Yagoona on October 8.

The other four gang members were arrested over a shooting in Bankstown on Thursday which left two men injured.

NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell says indications that police have broken the back of Brothers 4 Life will be met with "a wave of relief across the city".

"I'm delighted if this means that the targeted shootings that we have seen in recent times have come to an end," he said.

The premier declined to confirm reports the government is considering a mandatory five-year jail term targeting gang members in possession of firearms.

NSW Deputy Commissioner Nick Kaldas says "internal conflict" had made many of the victims targets.

"It's difficult to classify it as one type of conflict - whether it's a power struggle or people simply being offended about something that's been said, and acting in a quite irrational way by shooting someone instead of arguing," he said.

"It's probably a combination of three or four factors that led to the conflict."

Police later said they had charged a sixth Brothers 4 Life member, the last of the ten men arrested earlier on Thursday.

The 24-year-old from Auburn has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the two 2012 shootings.

He will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

Saudi cleric under fire after saying women risk hurting ovaries if they drive

In Saudi Arabia, where only men can earn a driver's license, a conservative cleric is drawing criticism for saying that women risk damaging their ovaries and bearing children with clinical problems if they drive, The Guardian reports.

The cleric, Sheikh Saleh bin Saad al-Lohaidan, made the comments in an interview following a recent campaign by women opposing the ban on female drivers. Lohaidan reportedly says women involved with the campaign, whose website was blocked in the kingdom, should put "reason ahead of their hearts, emotions and passions" – and not drive.

The opposition campaign called for female drivers to defy the ban and drive cars in a protest on October 26. According to the report, the ban on women drivers isn't actually a law, but only men are allowed to obtain driver's licenses. The country was preparing to lift the ban five years ago, but that plan didn't pan out.

Lohaidan explains the reasoning behind the ban as such: "If a woman drives a car, not out of pure necessity, that could have negative physiological impacts as functional and physiological medical studies show that it automatically affects the ovaries and pushes the pelvis upward," The Guardian reports. No specific medical studies were cited for explanation.

Four months after fire, building's rubble remains downtown eyesore

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - More than four months after a downtown Jacksonville building went up in flames, local businesses say it is now time to clean up the rubble. However, the city says part of the problem is the building's owner did not have insurance. Residents say it is time for somebody to take responsibility for its removal.

"The owners are not going to do anything," said local business owner Emily Griffin. "The city is not going to do anything. The people are unable to do anything without a permit from the state. I'm just stuck in the middle."

Griffin owns Snaps Photography, a store right next door to what was formerly the Yum Yum restaurant.

"My studio... I had several people renting out the other building and they had small businesses," she said. "I'd love to have that again."

It is an issue garnering enough support that the mayor held a special meeting Wednesday.

Griffin wants the city to tear down the remainder of the building so she can allow insurance adjustors into her space. As of now, Griffin has only received a partial insurance reimbursement and is unable to begin demolishing and rebuilding until something is done about the now-abandoned neighboring building.

However, the city said it is not their responsibility to clean up private property.

"Public property was at risk and in danger, so we cleaned public property up," said Jacksonville Public Works Director Will Cole. "We can't spend on non-public projects. If it's private property, it's illegal to spend funds"

But the city admits they have neither fined the owner or sent out any notices for cleanup. They promise that will come soon.

"It's just at this point where's it's stalled out and we need to take action and take control of it," Cole said.

Griffin said all she wants is action.

"I can leave my two buildings sitting here as well," she said. "That leaves three vacant downtown buildings that are eyesores. I can pack up and move on, but I don't want to do that, because that would not benefit this town."

The board of adjustments and appeals will meet in early October to discuss the fate of the building. Among their options are fining the owner or seizing the property.

Courthouse reopened after Smith Co. gas leak

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Smith County Courthouse has now reopened after closing during a gas leak at Smith County Jail Tuesday afternoon.

According to John Moore with the Smith County Sheriff's Office, the gas leak has been repaired by CenterPoint Energy and the courthouse has been reopened. Downtown Tyler is under a voluntary evacuation and some businesses have sent employees home for the day. Air monitoring has been conducted in the area and the atmosphere has been deemed safe.

Ferguson Street, Broadway Avenue, Fannin Avenue and Erwin Street near the jail were all closed

Emergency crews responded to a gas leak at the Smith County Jail around 12:07 p.m. Work crews hit a newly-installed four inch gas line while digging, causing it to rupture. The Smith County Courthouse and several surrounding buildings were evacuated.

Traffic now flowing on Loop 323 after train strikes forklift

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Traffic is now flowing on northeast Loop 323 after a train accident Wednesday afternoon.

A man on a forklift was operating the machinery near the railroad tracks on Loop 323 near Highway 271 when the forks on the equipment became stuck underneath the tracks.

The operator attempted to move the forklift but the machine would not budge. A train began traveling southbound on the tracks towards the forklift shortly after it became stuck. The machine's operator attempted to alert the train's conductor, but the mile long train was unable to stop. The operator managed to jump from the forklift before the locomotive made impact.

The train struck the forklift and derailed. No injuries were reported.

ETX motorcyclist recovering after serious wreck

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas motorcyclist who was injured in a wreck last week has a long recovery road ahead of him.

JC Chavis, 57, of Longview, has been moved out of ICU after being hit by a truck in a wreck on September 4.

Longview Police say 60-year-old Jimmy Mayfield, of Longview, was turning left on Spur 63, in front of the Whataburger near Highway 80, when he hit Chavis. According to police, Mayfield was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.

Chavis' family members say he is recovering from a broken leg, dislocated shoulder and a concussion. They say he will need physical therapy to walk again.

Multiple witnessed interviewed after altercation with White Oak HS mascot

BULLARD, TX (KLTV) -

Bullard officials have now interviewed multiple students in regards to an allegation by a White Oak student that she was roughed up during a football game last Friday.

The victim said she was shoved by up to eight other students while in her school's mascot uniform during the game between Bullard and White Oak, suffering cuts and a black eye.

Thursday, Bullard ISD officials said they are currently doing everything they can to get to the bottom of the case.

Police said they have been in touch with the family, who as of Monday said the girl still had a black eye from the incident.

"We've interviewed several witnesses or several individuals we believe to be possible witnesses," said Bullard Police Captain Jeff Bragg.

The White Oak students mother said the incident happened while her daughter was near the concession stands and bathrooms on the visitor's side of the stadium. Police said the case has been complicated by the fact that no witnesses have come forward and none of the six officers or additional administrators at the game saw the incident.

"With her not being able to identify the individual or individuals that may have caused any injuries to her or anything like that, that makes it difficult," Bragg said.

"If we find out a Bullard student was involved in incident, we will certainly take disciplinary action against that student," said Bullard Superintendent Keith Bryant. "But you have to remember that at football games, with thousands of spectators, there are kids and adults, many that don't even go to our school district."

The district has also told teachers to keep their ears open, hoping somebody will come forward with more information.

"We say something before every game to all of our students," Bryant said. "That is we have an expectation that you behave in a manner that reflects well on Bullard ISD."

Bullard ISD said that will continue to be their motto and they see no need to increase security during games at this time.

"We have every confidence in Bullard ISD and are sure they will take every step to make sure nothing like this ever happens again," said the superintendent.

Both Bullard police and school officials ask for anybody who may have witnessed or have knowledge about the incident to come forward. At this time, the case remains under investigation.

Two men arrested after being found with marijuana and crack cocaine

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Released by the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Department:

On 09/13/13 at approximately 1415 hrs, Deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office conducted a traffic stop on a passenger vehicle on South Street. The vehicle was occupied by two male subjects both from Nacogdoches, Texas.

During the traffic stop, Deputies could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Deputies conducted a search of the motor vehicle due to having probable cause. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 12 grams of crack cocaine that was found in the center console of the vehicle. Deputies also found a small amount of marijuana inside the car.

Darreyon Cooper 18 years of age and Timothy Morris 20 years of age were both arrested for possession of controlled substance in a Drug Free Zone a felony of the 1st Degree. . Both subjects were booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

Community helps veteran teacher recover after fire

CHAPEL HILL, TX (KLTV) -

An early morning electrical fire in a bathroom at Wise Elementary School led to canceled classes on Thursday. Officials said the fire started sometime between 1 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Debbie Griffin said this is her 29th year of teaching at the school.

"We're a family here at Wise, we're a family and we love each other," she said.

Love she was really feeling on Friday as teachers took the day off from their students to help her recover from the electrical fire that left her classroom covered in soot. Although the flames were contained to the bathroom, smoke damage and soot left four classrooms unusable for the time being.

Griffin said few things from her classroom are salvageable .

"It was very devastating at first, but then you realize it's just stuff," Griffin said.

However, now 29 years worth of teaching material and her students' school supplies are gone.

"As a parent, I can't imagine having to re-buy my school supply list because it gets expensive, and in this economy these days people need help with their funds," said parent Lori Acker.

So, Acker, along with other Chapel Hill ISD parents and employees are donating supplies, something they said they are thankful they can replace.

"This could have been so much worse. As a firefighter's wife, this could have been out of control by the time fire department got here. Lives could have been lost in this and so He's blessed us completely, but also it shows the love and the support of the Chapel Hill family," Acker said.

"You know, the theme this year at Wise is "Whatever it takes," and that's what we are doing and these kids are troopers," Griffin said.

Troopers who remind her of what is most important.

"God puts blessings in front of you that during your daily life, you don't see them, but when something like this happens, God puts those in front of you and then you have to stop and tell him thank you," Griffin said.

If you would like to donate teaching supplies or school supplies, you may drop them off at Wise Elementary School's front office.

Griffin said glue, markers, paper, puzzles and anything else you may think a kindergartner could use would be great.

The Chapel Hill ISD PTO is also working on organizing a fundraiser for school supplies and monetary donations.

Upshur Co. home total loss after Friday morning fire

UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas home is a total loss after a Friday morning fire.

According to the Pritchett Volunteer Fire Department, the fire started just after 9 a.m. at a home on Aspen Trail, just three miles southwest of Gilmer in Upshur County.

The owner of the home told an Upshur County Sheriff's Deputy Jef Rigsby that he left his home to test drive a motorcycle. Upon returning around ten minutes later, the house was engulfed in flames. He sustained no injuries.

Gilmer Fire Department and Pritchett Volunteer Fire Department are currently on scene.

50 years after Birmingham bombing, U.S. mayors vow renewed racism fight

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Reuters) - From lunch counters to public buses, the battle over racism in the United States during the 1950s and 60s took place in cities, and five decades later mayors of some of the country's largest urban areas have vowed to carry on the fight for civil rights.

Meeting in Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday where the 50th anniversary of the bombing of a black church will be remembered this week, civic leaders called for an end to modern discrimination in areas like jobs, housing and transportation.

"Cities are the place where hope hits the street, and where the hard work of government happens," said Mitch Landrieu, mayor of New Orleans, during a U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting taking place this week.

Landrieu was among 50 mayors nationwide who on Thursday joined a newly created U.S. Coalition Against Racism and Discrimination by signing a pledge to end racism in their own cities.

The 10-point plan calls on mayors to use their bully pulpits to push for diversity and equality while enacting policies that support programs such as post-release employment for prisoners, affordable daycare, fair housing, community events and education celebrating diversity.

The action comes as Birmingham remembers the 50th anniversary this week of the racial bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church that killed four girls and galvanized the civil rights movement.

On Friday, as part of its commemoration activities, the conference will host former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who was an 8-year-old girl in Birmingham at the time and lost her friend, 11-year-old Denise McNair, in the explosion.

The official ceremonies feature U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and will happen on Sunday, September 15, in Birmingham.

McNair, as well as 14-year-olds Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley perished in the blast. The bomb set by members of the Ku Klux Klan sparked passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Fifty years on, however, black children are still three times more likely to be impoverished, blacks and Hispanics have a higher unemployment rate than whites, and minorities are disproportionately imprisoned, according to the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Birmingham was the epicenter of the civil rights struggle as its citizens enacted change on a local level long before federal law caught up to them.

Clashes over whites-only waiting rooms in train stations, segregated bathrooms and water fountains, and other disparities in the laws regarding minorities resulted in change that turned activists like Rosa Parks, who refused to give her seat to a white person on a city bus in 1955, into civil-rights heroes.

"The marches in Birmingham were about toilets, parks and zoning, the things real people can change," said Christopher Cabaldon, mayor of West Sacramento, California, who signed the pledge. "Cities have always been the center, the focus, of civil rights progress."

British minister calls for greater BBC scrutiny after funding row

CAMBRIDGE, England (Reuters) - The British government believes the BBC needs to come under greater scrutiny after generous severance payments made to departing executives raised "serious questions" about the management of the publicly funded broadcaster.

Former BBC Director General Mark Thompson, who quit the BBC last year to become chief executive of the New York Times Company, and six other senior executives were grilled by British lawmakers on Monday over payments made beyond contractual obligations during the last three years of Thompson's 2004-2012 watch.

Culture Secretary Maria Miller was due to tell television executives attending the Royal Television Society Conference on Wednesday that the questioning, which saw BBC executives past and present arguing over who sanctioned the payments, was a "grim day" for the BBC's senior management and for British households who fund the broadcaster through license fees.

The BBC said it would launch a review of its internal governance systems, structures and cultures and examine the relationship between the executive management of the corporation and the BBC Trust, which regulates the broadcaster.

"The corporate dramas of the BBC should never eclipse its actual drama," Miller would tell the conference in Cambridge, according to an advance copy of her speech.

"Ultimately, license fee payers rely not only upon the right structures and governance being in place but also upon the BBC's executive management using their good judgment. And I think serious questions were raised about that judgment by the scale of the severance payments made."

She said under the leadership of Tony Hall, who assumed the role of director general in April this year, significant changes were being made at the broadcaster.

The government had already opened the BBC's accounts to scrutiny by the National Audit Office (NAO) to ensure license fee payers could see where their money was spent.

But she said she wanted the auditors to get quicker access to BBC accounts.

"The NAO's work has been pivotal in bringing issues to light so I want us to strengthen its role further," she said. "I want a system where the NAO can look at any area of concern without hindrance or delay."

Sierra Leone minister arrested after accused of raping student

FREETOWN | Wed Sep 11, 2013 2:16pm EDT

FREETOWN (Reuters) - A deputy minister in Sierra Leone has been sacked and arrested after he was accused of raping a student in his office, state radio said on Wednesday, citing a statement from the president's office.

Mamoudu Tarrawali, deputy minister for education, science and technology, was arrested in Freetown after the incident late on Tuesday, the radio said in a report announcing his sacking.

According to the radio station, the minister's security detail heard shouting coming from Tarrawali's office on Tuesday evening and they found him and a 16-year-old girl fighting.

She later filed a complaint at a police station near Tarrawali's ministry, the radio reported.

Tarrawali has not commented on the accusations.

Sierra Leone is recovering from years of war, during which fighters were accused of raping thousands of women and girls.

ALGIERS (Reuters) - Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika named new ministers for foreign affairs, the interior and justice on Wednesday in a major resumption of political activity since he suffered a stroke in April.

The North African oil and gas producer's prime minister and its finance and energy ministers kept their posts in the reshuffle, the state APS news agency reported.

Bouteflika, 76, returned from a French hospital in July, and state media have since released pictures of him meeting officials and said he was recuperating.

Observers and analysts said Wednesday's changes were likely aimed at trying to strengthen Bouteflika's allies ahead of presidential elections in April 2014 when he is not expected to stand.

APS quoted a presidential statement naming Ramtane Lamamra, an African Union official, as foreign minister, and Tayeb Belaiz as interior minister. It also named a justice and vice defense minister.

Energy minister Youcef Yousfi, finance minister Karim Djoudi and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal stayed on, APS said.

Bouteflika is part of an elite that has controlled Algeria since it won independence in a 1954-62 war.

In the early 1990s, the military-backed politicians overturned an election which Islamists were poised to win and then fought a conflict with them in which about 200,000 people were killed.

Re-elected for a third term in 2009, Bouteflika has not said whether he will run again after ruling the country for more than a decade.

One-off Ferrari SP12 EC named after Eric Clapton

Ferrari just created a special one-off car, the SP12 EC, as an homage to famed guitarist Eric Clapton’s career and his long-lasting passion for Ferrari, having owned three 512 BB models over the years.

Clapton wished that the car be based on a Ferrari 458 Italia but with styling reminiscent of the 512 BB and the early '80s.

No technical specs were released by the Italian automaker, but some sources report that the 458's 4.5L V8 engine sits under the hood. The total cost also remains vague, with estimates ranging from €3.8M to €4.5M ($4.9M to $5.8M).

The next full-size iPad from Apple will launch toward the end of 2013, after Apple's next iPhone, and the new tablet will gain a rear-facing microphone much like the iPhone 5, a new report claims.

The details were published on Thursday by Japanese blog Macotakara, which indicated that the fifth-generation iPad is expected to ship after Apple's anticipated "iPhone 5S." Reports have pegged Apple's next iPhone for launch around September, which would be around a year after the iPhone 5 went on sale.

According to author Danbo's sources, the next 9.7-inch iPad will gain a rear microphone next to the camera, much like Apple added to the iPhone 5 in 2012. The report noted that prototypes of the iPad mini also included rear microphones, but were not included in the final shipping product introduced last October.

While Apple apparently opted to remove the rear mic from the iPad mini in late stages of development, thus far it appears the microphone will remain on the next 9.7-inch iPad.

Earlier reports have claimed that Apple's fifth-generation iPad will adopt many of the same design elements Apple adopted with the iPad mini, including a thinner bezel around the screen and more rounded edges. Those changes are expected to make the device 25 percent lighter and 15 percent thinner than its predecessor.

Among the internal changes expected is a "GF2" touch panel, which would make the touchscreen component of the iPad thinner. Wow, a rear microphone? That's certainly worth waiting another half a year for.

I think they need to iterate the product faster, the mini already feels old and underpowered to me. It's not like Apple's iPad mini covers last longer than a few months anyway.

Old and underpowered? Is there a faster 7 to 8 inch tablet available? (UI and GPU). I guess not.

A thinner bezel for the regular-sized iPad seems like a bad idea. ?And I doubt that's what Apple has in mind.

The iPad mini can get away with it because it is meant to be held in the palm of one hand. ?But a full-size iPad needs the wider bezel so your thumb can have a firm hold.

No, they don't need to iterate faster. What is it, from a hardware perspective, that the iPad can't do? The A6X flies through everything. Having the product updated too often creates a lack of consumer confidence when buying the product, and dilutes the value. As for the mini, that product still has no real competition.?

Having skipped the iPad 4 I hope the iPad 5 will be a good replacement for my iPad 3.?

Smaller volume, less weight, longer battery life, and less warming up will be welcomed.

With most of its profits believed to come from manufacturing Apple products, Foxconn plans to diversify its business, and is even planning to build, brand and directly sell its own electronics accessories compatible with devices like the iPhone and iPad.

Details about Foxconn's internal plans were shared with The Wall Street Journal by an unnamed executive at the company, which is also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. According to a report published Monday, Foxconn is "aggressively" moving to add new clients and expand its business to reduce reliance on Apple.

Last quarter, Foxconn saw its revenue fall 19 percent in the first quarter of 2013, though net profit was up 2.9 percent. The revenue reduction coincided with Apple's first year over year profit decline in a decade.

Market watchers suspect that Apple is responsible for about 50 percent of Foxconn's revenue, though the company doesn't offer such numbers in detail.

But according to the unnamed executive, Foxconn plans to be able to supply all of the components for devices it assembles. Currently, customers like Apple must buy their components from multiple vendors, and provide them to Foxconn to have the final product assembled.

Beyond its ambitious manufacturing plans, Foxconn is also reportedly interested in selling its own branded accessories, including cables, headphones and keyboards that would be compatible with Apple products such as the iPhone and iPad.

Foxconn may even sell its own electronics and those of its partners directly, Monday's report said. The company is said to be investigating online retail operations, because those sales could generate higher margins than its current manufacturing efforts.

Foxconn's efforts to lessen its reliance on Apple's iPhone for its profits were first detailed earlier this month by The New York Times, though Monday's latest report offers more specifics on what those plans may entail. The company has also shown increased interest in televisions, and bought a significant stake in LCD maker Sharp as part of those plans.

Apple's declining profits come as the company has yet to release any major products thus far in 2013. CEO Tim Cook signaled in April that major new products will be arriving this fall and throughout 2014.

In the interim, Apple is expected to introduce new MacBook models at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June. In particular, MacBook Air inventory has been drying up ahead of the company's planned June 10 keynote. Without asking Tim Cook or some senior Apple's supply chain people, it's impossible to know how much of this is attributable to slowing demand from Apple, and how much from Apple's strategy to diversify its supply chain. Pegatron announced it would hire 40,000 more workers, which can only mean a big order from someone. I guess after years of running with single supplier for each critical stage, Cook has finally changed his strategy and use multiple suppliers to spread out the risks.

That's not the point, apple isn't going to release anything and that's the wise thing to do.

The problem is that tech blogs are talking about lower demand (apple is doomed) when Apple is using other companies like pegatron, TSMC (etc) more and more instead of relying exclusively on 1 manufacturer.

I see your point........Yes...Apple does use other suppliers. If orders for Foxconn as slowing then maybe Apple just shifted order to another one of their suppliers. I get that. But the point i was making is people who buy Apple usually wait to buy until after rumored product launches are over. They either buy the new product released or buy the previous product that might be available at a reduced price.
