Small Review of RHCE Rapid course, and what's next after RHCE?

Hi,

I recently attended the RHCE Rapid Course. I have a small review for everyone here. First like to let everyone know, I have 10+ years in writing c/c++ professionally. The biggest leap I made, if i treated RHEL like a programming environment, everything clicks.

1) Redhat's course is top shelf. Is it worth the money? If you have it, yes.

2) The redhat instructor is A+++. The instructor explained things very elegantly. He is from Canada, but I can't seem to recall his name.

3) Its very fast paced and 95% hands on.

4) The RHCE Rapid book is great, its direct to the point. I wish they had this on PDF.

5) Everything builds on everything. You are constantly build skill by executing things over and over in different scenarios.

How did we do collectively?

1) Majority passed the RHCSA exam, some unfortunately, did not. Most for the same reason, unfortunately, I can not tell why

2) Even fewer passed the RHCE exam. Most ran out of time. I did too, but it was on when I was checking my work. I am glad I did, i found a blatant issue that takes 2 seconds to fix.

I did pass, RHCSA with a perfect score, and RHCE with lots of wiggle room. To be blunt, I had it planned out that I would fail the first attempts and have this month and part of next to re-take it.

So my main question is what is next? I do not have a clear plan what to do next. I spent this weekend thinking on it and researching. I see I do need a good virtualization cert, like VMWare or RHVA (?). I like to take a huge step away from microsoft windows. So let me know what your thoughts are, and maybe I can come up with a plan in a few days.

Warm Regards

Where to take RHCSA in Europe?

Hi,

unfortunately I can't take RedHat exams in VUE centers around the world. I did notice they have some test locations in Europe, one of them being in Vienna, Austria which is the closest to where I live but I can't speak any German and their AT website has a broken "Enroll Now" link so I don't know how to take the exam.

I did try the UK website and when browsing for locations I choose Vienna and it returns a bunch of dates but I don't know if those are exam dates or training dates, because the title says: Course Dates and Online Registrations System. Take a look here:

Red Hat Europe

If you accept the TOS and continue it returns:

It costs ?450 so it could be it, but there's no contact info so I can't ask them directly. I don't want to enroll and later find out I'm taking a class or something. RedHat is really not straightforward with this.

Wondering about my RHCSA score...

Hey,

This is the first IT vendor certificate exam I ever take. I just got my RHCSA result and I got 250/300 (pass is 210) and I'm confused. I've studied by myself from Michael Jang's book and I don't know what degrees people typically get. Should I feel bad about it? Is it just good enough to pass?

Either way, I'm taking RHCE next.

Cheers folks.

Edit: by the way, somehow I have an odd feeling that I should have gotten more than 250. I'm confused.

Certifications LPIC-1, NCLA, CCNA, Bunch of comptia and CIW certs I don't care about 11-29-2013 09:30 AM #2
I would recommend learning redhat 6. There are still people out there using redhat 4 and 5 as well as other distros altogether. You're not gonna get by in the linux world if you're not capable of adapting to both old and new technologies.
