White Oak ISD: Female student in mascot costume 'roughed up' at football game

BULLARD, TX (KLTV) -

A female student from the White Oak Independent School District wearing a full mascot costume was roughed up by students at Friday night's football game against Bullard, according to White Oak superintendent Mike Gilbert.

"She was fine Friday night," said Gilbert. "She was checked out by medical staff. That was our priority."

Bullard ISD officials are investigating to find out the identity of the attackers.

"We have every confidence in Bullard ISD and are sure they will take every step to make sure nothing like this ever happens again," said the superintendent.

White Oak won the football game 35-14.

Multiple witnessed interviewed after altercation with White Oak HS mascot

BULLARD, TX (KLTV) -

Bullard officials have now interviewed multiple students in regards to an allegation by a White Oak student that she was roughed up during a football game last Friday.

The victim said she was shoved by up to eight other students while in her school's mascot uniform during the game between Bullard and White Oak, suffering cuts and a black eye.

Thursday, Bullard ISD officials said they are currently doing everything they can to get to the bottom of the case.

Police said they have been in touch with the family, who as of Monday said the girl still had a black eye from the incident.

"We've interviewed several witnesses or several individuals we believe to be possible witnesses," said Bullard Police Captain Jeff Bragg.

The White Oak students mother said the incident happened while her daughter was near the concession stands and bathrooms on the visitor's side of the stadium. Police said the case has been complicated by the fact that no witnesses have come forward and none of the six officers or additional administrators at the game saw the incident.

"With her not being able to identify the individual or individuals that may have caused any injuries to her or anything like that, that makes it difficult," Bragg said.

"If we find out a Bullard student was involved in incident, we will certainly take disciplinary action against that student," said Bullard Superintendent Keith Bryant. "But you have to remember that at football games, with thousands of spectators, there are kids and adults, many that don't even go to our school district."

The district has also told teachers to keep their ears open, hoping somebody will come forward with more information.

"We say something before every game to all of our students," Bryant said. "That is we have an expectation that you behave in a manner that reflects well on Bullard ISD."

Bullard ISD said that will continue to be their motto and they see no need to increase security during games at this time.

"We have every confidence in Bullard ISD and are sure they will take every step to make sure nothing like this ever happens again," said the superintendent.

Both Bullard police and school officials ask for anybody who may have witnessed or have knowledge about the incident to come forward. At this time, the case remains under investigation.

A newly-described immunodeficiency syndrome of neutrophil defects, bone marrow fibrosis, nephromegaly, and life-threatening infections arises from a genetic mutation that impairs movement of proteins within cells, researchers found.

All seven affected children studied had homozygous mutations in VPS45, which encodes for a protein that regulates intracellular traffic of proteins through the endosomal system, Raz Somech, MD, PhD, of Israel's Tel Aviv University, and colleagues reported online in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Putting normal VPS45 genetic material into patient cells ex vivo fixed the migration defect and cut down on neutrophil apoptosis.

"VPS45 deficiency should be considered in patients with neutropenia, bone marrow fibrosis, nephromegaly, migration defects, and severe bacterial and fungal infections," the group wrote.

While the disorder is rare, the findings may have some broader implications by revealing more about the inner workings of the immune system, Somech and colleagues suggested.

Neutrophils play a particularly important role in fighting bacterial and fungal infections, in part by secreting proteins stored in specialized vesicles and fusing membrane compartments to kill ingested microbes.

A variety of other immunodeficiencies involving defective neutrophils have been described, with a range of mechanisms.

"The cellular defects in this new disease suggest that other immunodeficiency disorders may also result from impaired vesicle trafficking," Somech's group noted.

They studied seven children from five Palestinian families of common ancestry who presented in infancy with poor weight gain, enlarged livers and spleens, and severe infections or deep-seated abscesses.

The children also had neutropenia that didn't respond to high-dose recombinant granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and bone marrow fibrosis.

Two siblings in one of the families also had delayed neurologic development, hearing loss, and cortical blindness, but it wasn't clear whether those problems related to the VPS45 mutation or some other genetic abnormality.

Two of the children died from infection after failed hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation; three died before the procedure could be done.

Parents and unaffected siblings were healthy with normal blood counts and neutrophil function.

A search for the causative gene using homozygosity mapping with single-nucleotide polymorphism arrays, whole-exome sequencing, immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, a real-time quantitative polymerase-chain-reaction assay, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, fibroblast motility assays, and measurements of apoptosis turned up the following: Homozygous mutation on VPS45 in Thr224Asn or Glu238LysReduced levels of VPS45 protein and its binding partners rabenosyn-5 and syntaxin-16Lower ß1 integrin levels on the surface of VPS45-deficient neutrophils and fibroblastsImpaired motility and increased apoptosis in VPS45-deficient fibroblasts

The mutations weren't found in 250 ethnically-matched controls or in normal genome and exome databases.

"The absence of dysmorphic features such as albinism or short stature distinguishes this syndrome from other known syndromes associated with neutropenia, such as the Chédiak–Higashi syndrome, Griscelli's syndrome type 2, the Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome type 2, and p14 deficiency," the researchers noted.

The study was supported by the National Human Genome Research Institute, an advanced grant (EXPLORE) from the European Research Council, the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz Program of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the Care-for-Rare Foundation, and the German Network on Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases.

Somech reported grants from the Israeli Ministry of Health, Israeli Science Foundation, and Jeffrey Modell Foundation.

Blunderbuss - Jack White

by lovekillhannah What more is there to say really? His voice is so unique and incredible, and he's one of the best guitar players ever. He's a true musician in every way and writes great lyrics to go with real rock n roll music. The world needs more real rock n roll like this again.

No matter if he is penning a ballad or destroying you with overtoned raw grinding riffs, Jack White never lets himself or his fans down. Each track stands alone and thats what makes him an overwhelmingly great artist. If you haven't downloaded this album yet, get on it!!

by SeanoLasTres I am a huge Jack White fan. White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather, what have you. I'm part of the Vault members for Third Man Records.

That said, this is a very unique and new side of Jack. It is not remotely what you would be used to hearing. There are some hints of late White Stripes and some Raconteurs, but for the most part, it's different. I suppose after hearing Sixteen Saltines, I expected there to be some more grit (even though the grit in that song comes across refined instead of raw) and I got excited for it...that's it except for a few snippets (Take Me With You When You Go). The rest of the album is kind of strange sometimes. It's good...just probably not what you were expecting. Missing Pieces and Love Interruption are great songs, but beyond that, I have trouble saying, "Oh yeah, that song is great too." It's great to see him take a new, interesting journey and venture into the realm of new music, but I guess I miss the old Jack too.

At some point you'll ask yourself, "is this really Jack White?" It's almost the exact same feeling when Danger Mouse got a hold of The Black Keys; you kind of said, "What the hell happened?" What you know of Jack White and what you have heard from his previous work has given you a expectation of what is coming in the future. I understand this is him defining himself as a solo artist, but I'm not sure if I'm crazy about it. It's odd. It just doesn't fulfill what you want it to. But I'm also used to hearing different sides of him. The difference between Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan is INSANE, and they're only 2 years apart! And hearing him in a rock band with the Raconteurs (saw them at Lollapalooza in 2006 and they kicked it hard) and on drums in the Dead Weather...point is I know he's capable of a lot and he's wildly talented...but my mouth is still dry from lack of awesome.

Understand this: I was STOKED for this album. You couldn't shut me up about it. I listened to it and found myself saying, "huh?" So I shook it off and listened again and..."huh?" I am listening to it the third time through now, but I just can't see this album growing on me and I am bummed out about it.

All Returns

All returns must be 100% intact, in the original carton/tote or packaging with the UPC or barcode clearly visible. Any components, manuals, registration card(s), software, cables and/or accessories must also be included. Unfortunately, if merchandise returned to our warehouse is in a non-restockable condition, we will be unable to issue a full credit. Please be advised that if your order is over $25 and requires us to reship from an original damaged, defective, shorted, or mis-shipped order, you will be temporarily charged for that item(s) and you will be credited when the original item(s) or claim is closed.

Guidelines for Return of Resalable Merchandise

Return Authorization Required
All returns require that a Return Merchandise Authorization number be issued by our Customer Service Department to you. Return numbers must be written clearly on the outside of all returned packages (not on manufacturer packaging). All packages returned without return numbers will be refused and returned to sender and the sender will be liable for all freight. Please allow 15 business days for return processing and credit postage to your account.

SHOP.COM Marketplace will apply full refund of the original purchase price of the item if received back in the condition the order was delivered. Shipping and handling charges will be deducted for returns due to customer error. Some items that are deemed customer error will be the customers' responsibility to return after receiving the RMA number and provided return address.

Restocking Charges
All returns must be requested within 30 days of ship date to prevent a restocking charge, and returned to within 15 days of the issuance of a Return Merchandise Authorization number. Restocking charges will be assessed as follows:

Damaged merchandise
Damaged merchandise must be reported within 5 business days. Please be sure to report the damage immediately with the shipping carrier when the package is delivered so that we can process your claim.

Defective items
Defective items must be reported within 10 business days, and must have the original box. If your product is defective in any way, please contact our Customer Service Department so that we can provide you with a Return Merchandise Authorization Number. Defective software will be replaced upon receipt of the defective product if customer wishes to receive replacement item.

Shortages/Warehouse mis-picks
If you received fewer items than you were supposed to or the wrong item, it must be reported within 5 business days after delivery.

Special Order, Custom or Dated Products
Special order items and / or custom products are not returnable with SHOP.COM Marketplace.

Dated Products are any items that contain annual date information such as calendars, appointment books and organizers, business journals and diaries, desk and desk pad calendars, and wall calendars and planners.
