An East Texas man is in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase from Chandler to Tyler.
A Chandler Police officer attempted to stop 53-year-old Jimmy Dewayne Lee for speeding. However, Lee would not stop. Police say he already had a felony warrant out for a parole violation.
Exclusive dash camera video shows Lee driving nearly 100 miles per hour and later wrecking in front of a Tyler school.
Chief Reeves says Lee was driving 47 MPH in a 30 MPH zone in a silver PT Cruiser on Farm to Market Road 315 in Chandler. According to Reeves, when an officer attempted to pull Lee over, he would not stop and led officers on a chase into Smith County. Tyler Police say they were called and informed of the chase by the Chandler Police Department.
Chief Reeves said Lee drove at speeds of up to 95 and 100 miles per hour.
"He got to Glenwood and made a sudden right turn on Glenwood and went over into oncoming traffic, or oncoming roadway. He went under the overpass, just barely making it, and from there he turned onto Vine street," explains Reeves.
Tyler Police officers say Lee was driving east on Bryan Street and attempted to turn north on College Street when he failed to negotiate the turn. Lee crashed the vehicle into a gate surrounding St. Gregory's Catholic School. According to Reeves, Lee fled the scene on foot but ran into an area with a locked gate.
Reeves says Lee originally resisted arrest until a Smith County officer threatened to use a taser on the suspect.
"The suspect apparently had been tased before or had seen what it does and he quickly gave up and put his hands behind his back as they were scuffling on the ground," says Chief Reeves.
Reeves says both Lee and the officer were checked out at the hospital for minor injuries.
Chief Reeves says Lee had felony warrants for parole violation and was also in possession of a controlled substance.
"We're not sure at this time if it was crack cocaine or methanphetamines. It will be tested and we'll find that out later," says Reeves.
Lee was booked into the Henderson County Jail and charged with evading arrest, fleeing and possession of a controlled substance.
